WC still making waves

The graduation of four All-Area team members that helped lead Westminster Christian to 50 wins the past two seasons seemed to be an ominous sign coming into the year.

Despite those heavy losses, the Warriors haven't missed a beat.

Westminster notched its 20th victory of the season with an impressive win against Suburban Catholic Conference title contender Marian Central on Friday. The triumph served as a benchmark for a group of players who were intent on extending the school's streak of 20-win seasons to three.

"I really sense that these kids want to keep the tradition going," WC coach Jeff Moeller said. "They've worked hard and they're the ones that have brought up getting 20 wins."

More success could be on the way for Westminster (22-7). Freshmen Ryan Perez and Kevin Elder join senior ace Brandon Siewert to form an effective pitching rotation.

The Warriors are 22-7 going into their final week of the regular season, which includes a showdown with potential regional foe Alden-Hebron today and a pair of key Private School League games against Aurora Christian on Tuesday and Wednesday.
